Why you need to detox your body?

If you suffer from skin outbreaks, you can’t seem to lose that extra weight or you constantly feel drained and like your brain is in a fog, it could be your body’s way of telling you it’s time for a detox.

Why detoxing is a good idea?

In order to appreciate the need to detox, it helps to understand the digestive process and how your body absorbs harmful toxins in the first place.

The food you eat enters the stomach, where it gets broken down by the body’s digestive juices before it enters the intestines and is eventually excreted as waste. The problem is that not all foods you eat take the same amount of time to digest.

Fruit takes around three hours to digest, vegetables around six hours and grains like rice and bread can take up to 18 hours to go through your system. A simplified way of looking at it is that the more water the food contains, the quicker your body can digest it.

The end result is that the three meals you eat on average per day don’t move through your body at the same rate. While your body is still working on a previous meal, the latest intake stays undigested and starts to ferment and decay in the body. This causes mould, fungus and viruses to take up residence inside our intestines.

You are what you eat - literally!

You’ve probably read articles or seen gruesome videos of tapeworms living inside people’s intestines. They grow thanks to the decaying food remaining in the colon - perhaps from that burger you ate a year ago that is still undigested in your digestive system.

How can this happen? The walls of the intestines feature millions of tiny finger-like projections, called Villi, which are meant to absorb nutrients and carry them into the bloodstream, where they are then delivered to each and every cell of the body. Some of the food you eat, especially the more processed varieties (as opposed to food in its natural form derived from nature) tends to stick to the walls of your intestines and forms a thick coating. This waste builds up and starts to surround your organs, interfering with their function, which leads to disease. This can manifest as acne, eczema or psoriasis on the skin, or build up in your organs as gallstones or kidney stones for example.

Eliminate the root cause of every disease

This build-up of waste is also the reason you may not have been able to shed those extra pounds. The built-up waste can also cause high blood pressure, ovarian cysts, polycystic ovarian disease and something as simple as constipation. However, constipation is nothing to be blasé about. It’s constipation that is the root cause of every disease.

By removing these toxins, disease doesn’t get a chance to take hold as disease can’t survive in a body that is clean internally. So, yes, it’s time for a detox.
